Startup Stories: Epiphany Homes

Tell us about your entrepreneurial product or service.
I provide a service that I believe makes those who lead a busy life, just a little bit easier…I locate properties for all types of people from all different walks of life. A lot of times my clients do not have time to deal with searching for a new home or property for themselves because of their busy schedules, so they employ me to search out single family homes, condos, townhouses. Also a lot of my clients are investors looking for the next great deal but they just don’t have the time themselves to look, so that’s where I come in and do all the research and locating of a good deal for them.

What inspired you to launch your business idea?
A part of me always wanted to work for myself but at one point in time I was scared to branch out. What inspired this idea for me was, I was actually helping someone close to me locate a residence for 6 months while they were out of town working. I did all the research, looked at all the places for him and even met with the real estate agent on his behalf, needless to say I got him in a great place which he loved. I then thought to myself, if you could do this for one person, then I know I can do it for many more. I decided instead of keep having the door closed in my face because no one is hiring in my field, I might as well do something that I have a passion and a love for, and that is helping others.

What problem does your business or organization solve?
I found that when it comes to high profile people, executives and even celebs; they want to purchase or lease homes, condos and town homes or purchase investment properties, but a lot of times they just don’t have the time to do the research or the looking around for themselves. I take what I do very seriously, and only locate the best properties for my clients according to their budget. I also handle home staging, and I find this helps my clients who are real estate agents and investors. A few investors that I deal with find that it is better to stage the homes, and they usually sell better when the potential owner can get a vision of what their stuff will look like in the home.

What has been your biggest challenge as an entrepreneur and how are you working to overcome it?
My biggest challenge was having the nerve to start out on my own and being new in this business. I have always worked a 9-5 in the Corporate world and at the end of the day that was it, no more no less. However, once I was laid off and made the decision to do this on my own, I find that you have to put in more than just 8 hours a day and this was a challenge for me, but I overcame that by realizing I can either work 8 hours a day making someone else life better, or I can work 16 hours a day to improve mines.

I am inspired by all the articles and it gives me drives and motivates me to push harder because I know I can and will be successful.

Give us an insider tip that relates to your industry or startup story.
A good locator will have positive relationships with property owners, real estate agents and landlords, and might be able to work a better deal for you. Also, A locator that asks nothing except the time you are available to tour will end up showing you what they want you to see, not what you want to lease or purchase.
