I don’t know about you, but every morning when I wake up I look in the mirror and I say, “Hello Beautiful!” NOT! The truth is that I scrutinize my hair, my face, teeth, and body. And what do I see?
- I AM FAT!
- I have sunspots on my face!
- My hair is flat! (or too frizzy depending on the day)
- I am no longer beautiful.
I used to have beauty- be beautiful- skinny- flawless skin- sex appeal- long full hair- and be everything, everyone defines as beautiful. I think as I have aged my biggest pill to swallow has been the loss of my hourglass figure. Over 16 years of marriage and four children later, my body definitely is not what it used to be when I was in my 20’s. I have a few love handles and we all know what happens to your boobs after breastfeeding four kids. I step on the scale and I see, “You Are FAT!” I’ve tried different diets, counting calories, and just eating differently, but honestly it’s such a struggle every day. How do I diet right and stay healthy? And if I do lose weight will I finally be beautiful again?

And if you eat fewer calories than you burn, you lose weight…cut 500 calories from your typical diet each day, you’ll lose approximately one pound a week (500 calories x 7 days= 3500 calories).”Healthy Weight Loss & Dieting Tips-How To Lose Weight & Keep It Off

Here comes a But!
Does our size determine our beauty? Some in today’s society would say, YES, being overweight is not attractive. I say, NO, my weight will not determine my beauty. Ever hear the phrase:
“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder”
Margaret Wolf Hungerford coined the phrase during the 19th century. Hungerford was an Irish novelist who wrote several works of fiction under the pseudonym of “The Duchess”. Ask.com A woman. A beautiful woman with a message for everyone that beauty is whatever you Behold it to be!
Beauty: noun \’byü-te\ –the quality or aggregate of qualities in a person or thing that gives pleasure to the senses or pleasurably exalts the mind or spirit.” Webster’s Dictionary
I love this definition because it doesn’t say you have to be skinny or fat, have hair or be bald, be blemish free, or have straight teeth, or have a certain color of skin, or be a certain height, etc… It says beauty is found in the qualities you possess that give pleasure to your, or other peoples, senses or exalts the mind or spirit! WOW!
I am beautiful!
I want to wake up tomorrow and every day and not see the fat, tired, blemished woman. I want to behold my beauty! Are you beholding your beauty? Start today and see what a difference it can make in your life. Maybe you’ll realize that living and being healthy begins on the inside. Stop letting the scale judge you.
