In Michigan, residents of the Upper Peninsula (“UP’rs” or “you-pers”) referred to residents of the Lower Peninsula as trolls because we lived under the bridge (the Mackinaw Bridge, which connects the lower peninsula to the U.P.).
Yesterday, at the LOHAS Business Conference in Boulder, CO, slam poet Dominique Ashaheed referred to trolls in another way. “The troll under the bridge is the music you refuse to make.”
