This is one of my all-time favorite quotes and a very powerful one. I have recalled this quote many times in my personal life and have recently started recalling it in my business life as well.
When I first started as a virtual assistant, I was very eager to find clients; so eager in fact that I was willing to work with anyone who wanted to work with me. Now one of the best things about being a virtual assistant is the ability to choose who you want to work with, and not the other way around; however you’re not always very selective when you’re trying to build your business.
Because I was so desperate for clients, I almost chose to ignore some red flags that made it very clear to me that some clients would not be a good fit and would have started my business off on very shaky ground. These clients showed me who they were and fortunately for me I believed them. Though it took some time, I eventually found my perfect first client and that client led to another and another…
It seems counter-intuitive to turn down business when just starting out, but choosing the right client can mean the difference between having a business you love or doing a job that you hate.
