Startup Stories: Making Change Happen at the Women’s Coaching Center

Tell us about your entrepreneurial product or service?
I began the Women’s Coaching Center to expand on my work with women, particularly midlife women. Although I am in the midst of expanding my mission to include women of all ages, I recognized some common themes in women who were coming to a certain age. I have also noted in myself the sense that change and reinvention, however scary, is vital to our continuing growth and ultimately peace. I have developed a number of programs to help women jump out of their safety zone and start embracing what they love—to do more of the “happy” and fulfilling then the “have-to’s” that they discover they really don’t need to be doing anyway. All my work is helping women discover their true perfect selves.

What inspired you to launch your business idea?
My inspiration begins within myself. I can’t teach or facilitate what I don’t know from personal experience. As a mental health professional I often found myself helping women to move out of their comfort zone and explore their creativity. When I speak of creativity, I am not speaking of any of the arts like painting, dancing, singing, etc. I am talking about creative exploration and a type of consciousness that can only be reached by asking ourselves questions—most of them simple and basic. What am I doing that I feel passionate about? How do I change the words “I want” to “I will” and “I am”. I believe we all need mentors and guides to help us chart a path that helps to make change confidently. And do I decided to become that mentor and guide. It’s incredibly inspiring and fulfilling.

What problem does your business or organization solve?
The fear of change. Self-sensors. Invalidation. Judgements of others. Confusion about what it takes to live a life that feels authentic. I don’t really believe that I solve problems as much as help women create a person life map that they can use to inspire new careers, improve relationships, build businesses, even plan for moves and retirement.

What has been your biggest challenge as an entrepreneur and how are you working to overcome it?
It’s always difficult to get your message out. It’s a very new world with new tools and avenues to market. Deciding where to place your efforts and getting through all the trial and error moments can be extremely arduous. Social media is a great avenue but it’s a vast and an oft times bumpy terrain. I haven’t nearly figured it all out yet.

How has Project Eve helped you and/or your business?
I was drawn to Project Eve because of the quality of information that’s presented. It’s given me the opportunity to read about all types of businesses. The entrepreneurs are articulate, authentic and passionate about what they are doing and marketing. The messages resonate with my own mission. Everyone is working from an inspiring place.

Give us an insider tip that relates to your industry.
All you have to do is shift your view slightly to make a change. I often suggest that people purchase a real prism because I find it helpful to have a visual object that re-enforces an idea. Prisms don’t change the entire view, they change a piece. I believe that this is all it takes to make tiny changes that can be life-changing.
