Career Girl Network is an online magazine that provides women with information, resources, and networking opportunities to get ahead in business and in life. We like to say “We meet you at your desk,” because while our focus is career, we recognize women worry about a whole host of issues during their 9 to 5’s and we work to address them all.
What inspired you to launch your business?
I worked for nearly a decade in nonprofit organizations that support women and girls, primarily. What I saw was that women of all ages and stations in life had the same challenges in their careers. Whether they were making a $10,000 donation or struggling to put food on the tables for their families, all women needed mentors, needed information, and needed resources and a network to succeed. I decided to leave the nonprofit sector and start a business in the easiest possible place for women to find these things – online!
What problem does your business or organization solve?
There is a severe lack of resources online for women who want to get ahead in their careers. There are a number of job search focused sites, but not sites for those women who just want to do better, get better, and network more effectively. We solve the “I don’t have enough time” problem for so many women. Our articles are easily digestible, quick, fun, and applicable to your work today!
What has been your biggest challenge and how are you working to overcome it?
By far, developing a strong revenue model and a path to sustainable monetizing of the business has been our biggest challenge. As with any high volume website, we are working to develop a strong advertising program, but have also tried our hand at events, in-person individual and group programming, and other ideas and we’re still coming to the final conclusion about a sustainable business model for Career GIrl.

How has Project Eve helped you and/or your business?
Having a forum of information specifically tailored to women in business at all levels has been a godsend! It’s not always easy for me to talk about my business and its challenges to my friends or family. But on Project Eve, I can be honest about where I am and the help I need.
Give us an insider tip that relates to your industry.
There is no competition! People ask me all the time if we’re competing with other sites like The Daily Muse and Levo League, etc. NO WAY! I love every single career site out there, whether they’re geared at women or not. And I believe that to be successful in the business of online content, you have to embrace your comparable sites and become allies!
